Holidays Sensory Play

Color Sorting Activity with Conversation Hearts

I recently gave birth to my second baby girl, Laini, and have found it pretty difficult to take care of a newborn while also giving time and attention to my 2 year old. Now that Laini is 6 weeks old and a little easier to care for, I’ve decided it is time to turn on Pinterest mom mode. We love to use our sensory table from IKEA for sensory play, but I am not the most creative person. I sometimes have to remind myself that sensory play doesn’t always have to be complicated. My toddler has been working on her colors lately so I came up with this super easy Valentines Day color sorting activity!

What You’ll Need:

  • Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Conversation Hearts Candy

Instructions:

It is such a simple activity but my daughter had such a good time with it. Cut out hearts with various colors of construction paper. I wrote the colors on the hearts, but my daughter can’t read so I could have left those off! Set the hearts out and make a small pile of the conversation hearts candy. I showed my daughter how to match them up until she got the hang of it and started doing it herself! Whenever she would pick up a piece of candy, I would say the color out loud to help her remember. She knows most of her colors but sometimes gets a few mixed up. She did such a great job and was so proud of herself by the end! She celebrated by eating some of the heart candies!

Let me know if you try out this color sorting activity with your toddler! We will definitely be doing this activity a few more times this month.
