Newborn Essentials
  1. Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine– I feel like EVERYONE has this on their baby registry. But it really is THAT good! I have one for each of my daughters and it has been amazing for getting them to sleep. There are lots of colors and sounds to choose from. I will definitely have to get one of these for myself after my baby moves into her own room!
  2. Love To Dream Swaddle Up– I probably bought every swaddle on the market when I had my first daughter. My favorite and most used was this one! It puts their little arms up next to their head and makes them look like an adorable little butterfly. The zipper makes it SUPER easy for middle of the night diaper changes. Also, it is lightweight so you don’t have to worry about baby overheating!
  3. Bumco Baby Bum Brush– This is a new one I got just recently, but its a game changer! I have super sensitive skin, and I’m always nervous that products will break me out. But now I just put the diaper rash cream on this, and basically paint it on my baby! Might seem a little extra, but it is super affordable and keeps your hands clean!
  4. Nose Frida They should just start giving all new moms a Nose Frida when they leave the hospital. This is one of the most important newborn essentials. Some people find it too gross to suck the literal snot out of your baby’s nose, but there is a filter and nothing gets in your mouth! There is also an electric version, but I think the manual version works best!
  5. Frida Windi– If you find the Nose Frida gross, you aren’t even going to want to know what this one is for. The Windi helps baby pass gas. I’ll let you do the reading on how it does that, but it is great to have around just in case you need it!

  1. Baby Shusher: The Baby Shusher came highly recommended by a few mom friends when I was making my list for what I would need when baby was born. It may seem like a simple item but let me tell you, repeating “shhh” when you’re sleep deprived can become a challenging task. Since babies are used to hearing a ton of sound waves in the womb, it’s soothing for them to hear “shh” on repeat. This thing is a life saver. In the early days we left it on while Camden would fall back asleep in his bassinet. I keep a second one in our diaper bag for when we’re out and he needs a nap.
  2. Dreft Stain Spray: This stuff does what it says it will do. I had no idea how many blowouts we would incur with a new baby but thanks to this spray, I’ve yet to throw out a single outfit. Saturate and I mean saturate pajamas, onesies, blankets, socks, whatever and toss it in the wash. It amazes me every time how there’s not a single stain left.
  3. Large Burp Cloths: I knew babies spit up but I was not prepared for how much they can spit up. My son is a “happy spitter” so quickly we realized the cute and small burp cloths weren’t going to cut it. Do yourself a favor and grab a pack of large burp cloths in case your baby is a happy spitter too!
  4. Halo Swivel Bassinet: I researched bassinets for a while before landing on this one. I loved our bassinet. This one in particular can swivel towards the bed which makes it easier than shifting it forward, when you need to get baby, and back, when baby is asleep. One wall can collapse down so it’s easier to pick up your baby. These may seem like minor details but when it’s 2am and you’re up for the 4th time that night, these things mean a lot.
  5. Halo Sleepsack Velcro Swaddle: I watched many swaddling videos and practiced swaddling but it’s just not one of my skills. And attempting it in the middle of the night didn’t seem feasible. We had 2 of these swaddles in rotation in case of a blow out because they were that crucial to our routine. It keeps baby secure and snug without worry of fabric coming loose or sliding up towards baby’s face. Then once baby has started rolling or reached 8 weeks, you can continue to use it with their arms out and their torso wrapped.
